What works, what does not, and why.

Every product in this category breaks when Apple ships a new iOS. Pretending otherwise is how you end up issuing refunds. Here is the honest state of it.

iPhone and iPad

Why iOS 17.0 to 17.3 is out

Larpspot reaches your iPhone through a service Apple added in iOS 17.4. On 17.0 to 17.3 that service does not exist, and the only remaining route requires a background component running on your Mac with administrator privileges — permanently.

We decided that four superseded releases are not worth asking every single customer to install that. Updating to 17.4 or later is free and takes a few minutes.

When a new iOS lands

Larpspot checks this list when it starts. If Apple has just shipped a release we have not qualified yet, you get a clear message saying so — not a confusing failure halfway through setting a location.

Anonymous failure diagnostics (an error code, an iOS version, a Larpspot version — nothing else) tell us within a day when something breaks, instead of us finding out through refund requests.

Before you start

Four things need to be true, and Larpspot checks all four continuously and tells you which one is blocking:

    Developer Mode is on

    Settings › Privacy & Security › Developer Mode, then restart the iPhone.

  2. 02

    The iPhone is unlocked

    Keep it unlocked while Larpspot connects.

  3. 03

    The Mac is trusted

    Tap Trust on the dialog the first time you plug in.

  4. 04

    A data cable

    Charge-only cables carry power but no data. Larpspot needs data.
